Living the Currituck Dream.....

So I am sure you are staring at your screen right now thinking to yourself, "what is happening skateboardwise in Currituck County on the coast of NC?" Well I am here to show you that, Ctuck County is a little ahead of the game when it comes to providing skateboard structures made of concrete for your public use with your family. A few things about what you are about to look at if your reading this dribble..... One: under the VA/NC border is Knotts Island (upper Ctuck skatepark) a street oriented flow course/street park, accesable by car from VBeach and only by Ferry from NC. It really has that "end of the road feel" and that is perfect for skateboarding. Two: Maple Park (Middle Ctuck skatepark) a vert/bowl park, the first phase of this concrete oasis. Vert tranny and gnarly obstacles like oververt, pool coping, and giant doors that will break you off, or make you a hero... go there. Three: Powels Point Park (Lower Ctuck) a mix of both parks with street flow and a amoeba pool with pool block and vert. All concrete and all three at the hands of Artisan Skateparks. Yes there is a private owned concrete park over on the beach at Corolla light, (Island Revolution)and a few backyards that you will never find. Artisan has a hand on all of it and by the end of July all of it will be a reality, a dream of the ultimate Skate County. What other county anywhere on the East Coast can you say has three free, concrete skateparks that you can roll up to and skate without hassle year round, and another concrete park on it's beaches? Currituck! The following is a day off I spent checking out the new construction in this dream we are all now living in.

9 am ferry, headed east into the sound...

Littering makes us crabby..... Knotts Island Skatepark

The park is located at the small Ruritans Park a few miles off the ferry, I found it with no directions....

Quiet spot with about 5 ft tranny walls, mix of banks, hubba's, and boxes. Check out that basin.

Would love to see a second addition added to this jewel.

The kids come and go on Ferrys.

Dave also works with Artisan, Ashley and Dave taking what nature provides and making the rad...

Dave does exactly what Archie Bunker did when he got home from work, liens into his comfy spot.

Dave puts the slob in your face. Yeah Salba!

Ronnie Oniel is getting the backside airs down and throws up a few stylish back to back airs.

Dylan Oniel nosebone style and 15ft above earth.

Powell's Point, here is part of the street flow area.... Powell's Point Skatepark

Here is the beginnings of the Amoeba, from the shallow.

Here is the bonus pocket laid out. Andy will be in KDH real soon starting on this... KDH Aviation Skatepark

So, remember Maple? It's still really smooth and fast. Maple Shade Skatepark

Big vert....

and lots of lines and obstacles.

Island Revolution Skatepark in Corolla, built by MHC and Artsian.

First big thank you goes to Jason Weeks at Ctuck Park and Rec, also Andy, Bart, Gwaltney, Country, Dirty, Dave, MarkG, and Durand from Artisan. Marc Corbett, and The Oneils for being the ultimate Skateboarding Family also to the neighbor that brought Dave over tons of steak, chicken, and sweet corn for the eve sesh. Got to love Currituck... Dream big "OTHER COUNTIES"
