Little Alligator River Weekend

After working on my boat all summer, between doing other things, I needed to get away and "into the wild" that's the new buzz now, great.. (Maybe they'll charge admission to go sleep in the bus and charge extra for starving to death. See web site) An old friend of mine has access to a hunting club lodge on pilings in the water out in Little Alligator River. An area fancied by duck hunters for the giant sand bar that sits out there. It's like a little city of duck blinds, I don't know how anybody walks away from there without getting an ass full of bird shot..... Anyway, it was perfect weather and I had some where to sail too and the family was out of town. Enjoy the pics. Not many.

A quick map.

Friday around 6 pm I load her up with food and gear, toss the dog in, and start heading west. 3.5 hrs to get to Little Alligator,
only and hour of daylight left...

About an hour in, something explodes next to me. Scared the hell out of me. Then there were like
25 of them.

Getting photos while operating the boat was not all that easy. They were not exactly cooperating either....

Never did get that one shot I had the finger on the trigger hanging out the side steering with my feet for like 20 min.

I was headed for that cove you see in the top pic about half way.to my destination. Take in mind dark, crab pots, and fishnets everywhere! I sailed into the cove in the dark so I wouldn't foul my motor on a pot or a net. I misjudged the opening and had to rebate.

It was dark as hell and pretty nerve racking. I almost headed out and ran home. Thats weak, so I had to pull it. The whole time telling myself what a bad idea this is.....in the dark. I could do it blind folded now....

I managed to spot a lodge I had seen before that is in this cove and it turns out they built a new dock. I anchored first and thought about the dog (who isn't all that bright) falling into the sound in the middle of the night. No one around, I tied to the dock so she could get ashore and do her business and ate dinner and played around with long exposure shots and flashlights...

Elsa during a 13 sec exposure....was hoping to get stars in the background....

Between the Dolphins, dorking the camera on the dock and last weekends trip I worked the batt to death. the last shot the Nikon took before we heading further west. 7 am

I have some cell phone pics to upload and a roll of film pics I took with a thrift store point and shoot.....Stay tuned...
